VVT has already been available on GM’s small-block 6.0L and 6.2L V-8s. The widely-anticipated addition of VVT to the 4.8L and 5.3L V-8s completes its rollout in the truck small block V-8 engine line.
Does my engine have VVT?
You can tell if your motor has VVT by looking at the cover. You can see the camshaft phaser actuator on the top, and also a five pin harness at the bottom. If the motor does NOT have VVT, there will be no phaser, and the harness will be three pin. You can tell if your motor has DOD by peeking at the valley cover.
Is LS3 a VVT?
The LS3 used lighter, hollow-stem intake valves. The L99 used pistons w/ valve reliefs for added clearance with the VVT system.
Is VVT the same as VTEC?
VVT and VTEC are the same thing. Honda name it differently for marketing purpose. VVT and VTEC are valve control system. So basically, they control the opening of engine valves depending on the power needed.
What does a VVT delete do?
A VVT Delete Kit removes the VVT components and replaces them with standard parts. … A new, 4X, non-VVT upper timing gear, A new harmonic balancer bolt, and. New camshaft bolts.
What is the difference between VVT and non VVT?
You will see the difference between non VVT and VVT engines that the top of the torque curve is wider. So you can use the max of your torque and power over a larger RPM band. Making the engine more smooth and should have a positive effect on feul consumption and emissions.
Is VVT and AFM the same thing?
DOD (Displacement On Demand) or AFM (Active Fuel Management) allows your V8 engine to save fuel by running as a 4 cylinder engine under steady, light load conditions. VVT (Variable Valve Timing) allows your engine to develop more torque or horsepower under various conditions by advancing or retarding the camshaft.
How does a VVT engine work?
The VVT varies the timing of opening and closing of valves for multiple engine speeds. At high speed, the Inlet valves open quite earlier so that more air-fuel mixture or ‘charge’ enters the cylinders. This helps to increase engine’s breathing which also improves its ‘volumetric efficiency’ to a large extent.
Is VVT worth keeping?
As for keeping or deleting VVT, the benefit of keeping VVT is that you gain low end torque. The drawback is that you lose high end hp compared to a LS3 cam. Many people swear up and down that a VVT cam is the way to go, while others swear up and down to delete VVT and do a LS3 conversion.
Is VVT reliable?
The VVTi mechanism is not unique to the land cruisers. It’s pervasive across the whole lineup of toyota’s and has proven it’s worth reliability in power and gas efficiency.
Is VVT good?
There are many benefits to using VVT and virtually no drawbacks. One benefit is an increase in maximum engine speed (and therefore more peak power) – as much as a 25% increase. … However, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a staple of emission control and can be enhanced by using VVT.
Which is better VVT or VTEC?
VVTi cars do not have the dramatic jolt that VTEC cars do but they are more efficient and powerful than their non VVTi counterparts. BMW had single VANOS, which I think only adjusted advance for the intake side. Then they had double VANOS which did both intake and exhaust.
Is VTEC better than Turbo?
Turbo produces more torque and horsepower obviously while VTEC is more about pushing the maximum horsepower out of the engine since torque on VTEC cars can only be felt on VTEC range meaning anywhere after 5,500RPMs but yet the torque is still nothing compared with a turbo’s torque output.
Can you feel VTEC kick?
Re: What does it feel like when VTEC kicks in? (
the GSR has a lower switch point than most other dohc vtec cars, and its tuned to be very smooth and transparent. So if the car is stock, you won’t feel any abrupt switch. you might hear it though, if you listen carefully. with intake and exhaust, its easier to hear.
